COUNSELLING
Counselling is an effective way to address specific concerns through time-limited treatment in structured sessions. This process is best suited to clients wanting goal-oriented support during a particular life event or transition, within the broader context of emotional wellbeing. Sessions will help you process difficult experiences, regulate your nervous system and build strategies to move through this experience with resilience and grace. Examples of situations where counselling is a suitable treatment include:
Recovery for victims of crime
Grieving the loss of someone you loved
Processing an isolated trauma, such as an accident
Navigating immigration or emigration
Support with making an important life decision
Navigating an unexpected relationship breakup
Support with the loss of a job or career
Processing a medical diagnosis
Based on your requirements, our work will draw on evidence-based approaches from acceptance-based (ACT), cognitive (CBT), mindfulness-based (MBCT) and dialectical (DBT) therapies. Sometimes counselling is about implementing tools and strategies; other times it's about being witnessed compassionately while processing the impact of a traumatic life event. In counselling I aim to attend to your individual needs rather than to a fixed formula, so we can collaborate on a treatment that works for you.
For more generalised or complex psychological difficulties (anxiety, depression, addiction, complex trauma, or intimacy and relationship issues), psychotherapy is a more appropriate treatment. This approach gives us time to explore your personality, history and functioning in relationships, with a view to personal transformation on a deeper level.
